CX-1 is a polymer-based tile adhesive specifically formulated for fixing ceramic tiles and small format natural stone, clay tiles, terracotta and quarry tiles of regular size. It is suitable for both vertical and horizontal surfaces, over the cementitious substrate for indoor application, in dry as well as wet areas. Easy to use with just water mixing, CX-1 is perfect for dry areas and occasional moisture environments like bathrooms and kitchens. A comprehensive, sequential procedural view designed for engineers and site applicators to attain faultless surface integration using CX-1 adhesive compounds.
Surface Preparation
Remove all Dust, Water, Oil & Sealers from Surface / Substrate to ensure full chemical contact.
Water Addition
Add 5 to 6 Liters of clean water or Admix into an empty structural mixing bucket.
Adhesive Mixing
Add 20 Kg CX-1 Thin Set Adhesive into water and mix thoroughly until it attains a perfect, uniform paste.
Slaking Period
Allow the mixed material to slake (rest) for 5 to 10 minutes to fully activate its polymer bonding properties.
Re-mixing
Mix the material again briefly without adding extra water, then transfer the material onto your notch trowel.
Flat Bedding
Use the flat side of the trowel to spread and press the adhesive layer uniformly onto the base substrate.
Adhesive Combing
Comb through the adhesive layer at a precise angle with the help of a correctly sized Notch Trowel.
Back Buttering
Spread the adhesive material on the backside of the tile also if the tile dimension is larger than 12\"x12\"."
Leveling
Press and tap the tile surface gently with the help of a Wooden Hammer to maintain a perfectly uniform surface plane.
Surface Cleaning
Clean the tile surface thoroughly using a clean wet cloth or damp sponge before the compound sets.
Curing Phase
Restrict all foot traffic completely across the layout zone and wait up to 24 Hours for full chemical curing.
Final Grouting
After completing the 24 Hrs wait period safely, you can immediately proceed with filling joints via the grouting process.

Surface Preparation
- All Surfaces Must Be Between 40°F (4°C) And 104°F (40°C), Structurally Sound, Clean, And Free Of Dirt, Oil, Grease, Loose Paint, Laitance, Concrete Sealers, Or Curing Compounds.
- Ensure The Surface Is Plumb And Level Within 1/4 Inch (6mm) Over 10 Feet (3 Meters).
- Smooth Rough Or Uneven Concrete Surfaces With A Screed Or Plaster Material To Achieve A Wood Float Finish (Or Better).
- Dampen Dry, Dusty Concrete Slabs Or Masonry And Remove Excess Water Before Installation. New Concrete Slabs Must Be Damp Cured And At Least 28 Days Old Before Application.
- Incorporate Expansion Joints Through The Tile Work To Match Any Construction Or Expansion Joints In The Substrate. Do Not Cover Expansion Joints With Mortar.
- Gresbond EA-100 Is Recommended For Tile Or Stone Installations On Plywood And Wood Substrates.

Mixing
- Pour Clean, Potable Water Into A Clean Mixing Bowl.
- Add CX-1 Powder To The Water (Approximately 5 - 5.5 Liters Of Water Per 20 Kg Of Powder).
- Mix By Hand Or With A Slow-Speed Mixer Until A Smooth, Trowelable Consistency Is Achieved.
- Allow The Adhesive To Slake For 5 Minutes.
- Adjust Consistency If Necessary.
- Remix Before Applying With The Proper Sized Notched Trowel.
- For Large Format Tile Or Stone Installations On Exterior Surfaces, Contact Gresbond Technical Services.
Application
- Apply mortar to the substrate with the flat side of the trowel, pressing firmly to work into the surface.
- Comb on additional mortar using a properly sized notched trowel held at a 45-degree angle in a single direction.
- Back-butter large format tiles, stones, or deeply grooved tiles to guarantee 100% full adhesive coverage.
- Place tiles into the wet mortar bed and twist slightly to ensure total contact and mechanical bond strength.
- Periodically check or lift set tiles to verify that appropriate transfer is happening on the back of the tile substrate.
Precautions & Note
- Do not apply adhesive layer beyond what can be easily tiled within 20 minutes of open time window.
- Protect fresh installations from extreme weather, freezing conditions, and direct heavy rains for at least 24 hours.
- Always wear appropriate safety glasses, dust masks, and industrial gloves while handling dry cementitious mixtures.
Limitation
- Do not use over highly unstable substrates subject to extreme structural movement or dynamic deflection.
- Not designed for direct exposure to active chemical environments or continuous liquid hydro-static loading unless noted.
- Avoid using where ambient application temperatures drop below 4°C or climb significantly past 40°C during setting phases.
Grouting
- Allow tiles to cure undisturbed for approximately 24 hours prior to initiating any wall or floor grouting processes.
- Clean out joint spaces completely to remove standing debris, loose adhesive ridges, or layout spacers.
- Grout joints using Gresbond specialized premium polymer-modified grout mixes or technical epoxy solutions.
